UK minister stresses there is no cap on foreign students

02 Jun 2015

Though the number of foreign students from some countries registered at UK universities has increased, the number from India has declined from 39,090 in 2010/11, to 19,750 in 2013/14. By contrast the number from China has increased from 67,325 to 87,885 over the same period.

Jo Johnson, the new UK Universities minister, has said he will address the decline from India, and try to address the perception that, in some countries, there is a perception that the UK is not welcoming to foreign students

This coincides with the fact that this year the cap on total students in higher education in the UK is being removed, after being raised by 30,000 for the last academic year

The minister also said that there is no cap on the number of former students who can stay on to work as long as they have a graduate job
