UK manufacturing grew by 2.6% in July

15 Sep 2014

Whilst UK manufacturing output grew by 2.6% in July and was the 14th consecutive monthly rise, it was the weakest figure since November 2013 (1.5%), according to the latest report from the Office for National Statistics.

The report also showed that, on a seasonally adjusted basis, there was no growth at all in July compared to June

The headline figures do not give the full picture, however, as there was a 3.3% increase in infrastrucure output, 1% in private commercial and 0.8% in total housing - largely offset by a decrease in non-housing repair and maintenance (-4.1%)

In addition, the ONS' quarterly figures for new orders paint a brighter picture, with an increase of 3.8% in Q2 over Q1. This included increases in new orders for infrastrucure (20.8%), private commercial (9.6%), public new housing (7.3%) and public other new work (0.3%). Private new housing and private industrial fell by 6.3% and 1.9% respectively
