Glasgow now 'first division' for investment in student property for sale

In research just published, Glasgow has joined the 'first division' for university cities or towns that are rated best for investment in student accommodation. Criteria taken into consideration for the accolade include current and likely future supply and demand, and the development of the local private rented sector. Newcastle, Kingston-upon-Thames, Aberdeen and Bournemouth also join the top flight

The research also provides evidence that the top-ranked institutions are less prone to falling student numbers, from both the UK and abroad. Total applications from UK students dipped when the recent rise in tuition fees was introduced, but for the top-flight universities this was compensated for by the rise in students from abroad. Moreover, UK applications have now recovered - understandably, all potential students and their parents are weighing up if the cost of a degree is worth it, and for the top-ranked universities the answer is still 'yes', but less so for the poorly-ranked ones
